Two men were arrested around 2am in Matata Street, Crossroads, on Friday last week for the possession of an illegal firearm.
The suspects, aged 28 and 35, were arrested at a local spaza shop, after a tip off from the community.
Police were tipped off while patrolling the area. A firearm with eight bullets was discovered in their possession.
They appeared at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Tow other suspects, aged 29 and 40, were also arrested on the same night for house robbery. The suspects were arrested during a tracing operation by members of the Nyanga Serious and Violent Crimes Unit.
They allegedly robbed a family in April, in Inkwenkwezi Street, in Crossroads.
Police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said the accused forced their way into the house and pointed a firearm at the man of the house.
They demanded cash and took the family’s Plasma TV, clothing and other items before fleeing the scene. The pair appeared in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Monday on house robbery charges.
