Police visibility and efforts to address serious crimes in Nyanga continue to yield positive results.
Seven suspects were apprehended over the weekend for crimes ranging from the possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition, possession of a hijacked vehicle, rape and possession of a stolen vehicle. Six suspects were all apprehended while officers were on patrol in different sectors of Nyanga.
On Saturday at about 01:10 four women, aged between 18 and 24, were apprehended while driving a vehicle that was reportedly hijacked in Mfuleni. A 20-year-old suspect was arrested in possession of a prohibited firearm.
In an unrelated incident, officers were on patrol in Lusaka when they spotted three suspicious looking men, who proceeded to run in different directions. The officers noticed one suspect carrying a firearm and they managed to catch him.
Another suspect was arrested after he was spotted parking a bakkie which was reported stolen in Nyanga.
A 21-year-old suspect from Brown’s Farm was apprehended.
The suspects appeared in the Athlone Magistrate Court.
Another suspect was arrested on Sunday morning for allegedly raping a 12-year-old victim in Samora Machel.
It is alleged the suspect raped the victim while the elders were not at home and had done this repeatedly. He has appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate Court.
