Reading club invites all

The Young Minds Reading Club is a youth reading club held every Saturday at the Nazeema Isaacs Library, next to the Chris Hani Secondary School, Khayelitsha.

In association with primary school children, their mission is to foster leadership development through the coordination of educational and awareness projects to promote lifelong reading and writing.

Their goal is to be recognized as a reading club that is able to create a world of leaders through reading and writing.

According to a statement, the organisation is creating leaders through reading and writing. They find it their duty to alleviate the youth under the impact of drug abuse, rape and poverty by introducing the mind-set that readers are leaders and leaders are readers through this reading club.

This solution is supported by numerous parents, organizations, schools and communities.

However, they are facing challenges in this youth-led non-profit organization. The organisation has more than 50 learners from different primary schools (grades R to 7) whom they are working with that are eager for this.

These kids are from disadvantaged homes in Khayelitsha. On Saturday 29 September, the club is planning to host an event that will incorporate reading, storytelling and spelling.

The event will encourage the learners in the club to continue reading during the holidays and for them to come back motivated to read more.

It will also give the facilitators a chance to interact with the parents of these children in a more relaxed setting and for them to see what their children have been doing in the club this year.

Young Minds invites you to their event on this day.

“We wish for more people and other organizations for collaboration in order to form future partners so we can be able to work hand-in-hand to create a world of leaders.” the organisation says.
