Learners from Thembelihle Senior Secondary School were delighted when they received much-needed help from a church on Thursday 12 September.
Gospel Assembly Ministries donated sanitary pads to the girls of the school so that they do not miss school because they are on their period.
Pastor Geoffrey Mugo said they are sponsoring sanitary pads to different schools because they have seen a need for it.
“Principals sometimes have to buy pads from their own pockets because some learners can’t afford it,” he said.
He said the donation of the 802 sanitary pads is the second donation to a school.
As a church they would like to continue donating to school children because they feel it is necessary, he said.
A learner who did not want to be named, said she is thankful for the sanitary pads because she will not have to miss going to school when she is on her period.
School secretary Noluthando Ncumani said what the church has done for the school is very important.
“We are happy that even churches give back to schools,” she said.
She added that by getting sanitary pads it will mean that the learners will not be absent from school.
