Shots ring outside court; scholar car shot

A man was shot and killed outside Khayelitsha Magistrate Court yesterday morning by a group of armed suspects.

Police spokesperson Captain Siyabulela Vukubi said a 31 year-old man from Mitchell’s Plain was shot dead outside the court.

“The man came to court to listen to a case of a person known to him and who was arrested for possession of drugs. As he stepped out of the car, nine suspects in two vehicles shot at him,” he said.

Vukubi said the circumstances surrounding the incident were still unknown and are being investigated.

In another shooting incident, a vehicle transporting learners in Makhaza, was shot at and two children aged 11 and 15 years were injured and taken to Khayelitsha District Hospital.

He said a 62 year-old suspect was arrested for attempted murder and will appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate Court soon.
