Teams square up for cup

Green Lovers Football Club battled it out against Zaas Football Club in Philippi on Saturday 9 November.

The two clubs were playing in the local Macufe Cup soccer tournament and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Lovers captain Abenathi Malawana said they had a very good game against Zaas. Zaas led by two goals in the first half, however, Lovers came back strongly in the second half for a draw.

“They scored their two goals in the first half and we had to dig deep in order for us to stay in the game,” he said.

He said his players “showed up” in the second half and scored the much-needed goals to end the game in a draw.

Malawana said he was happy with the performance of his team because they showed a fighting spirit.

He said he is proud of his players although they lost in the semi-finals.
