Grade 3 learners from Mseki Primary School in Gugulethu had lots of fun when Tomorrow Trust brought a group of workers from a leading clothing brand to the school.
Tomorrow Trust is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that provides integrated education and holistic support to learners.
About 80 local and international about workers visited the school on Wednesday 15 May where they entertained the learners with a range of activities including reading and drawing.
School principal Philani Marubelela said the visitors came to do their community outreach programme. “The visit is very encouraging for us as the school, we work closely with the Trust. They are the ones who organised this event,” he said.
Among other things, Marubelela said the Trust runs holiday programmes for the school. He said he is happy that Mseki was chosen. He hailed the event, saying it is in line with the Department of Education’s “this year is the year for learners” theme.
Nicola Mathews, operations manager for the Trust, said they run a holistic educational programme with learners from Grade R to Grade 12. They built a tailored programme and each learner is helped according to their spesific needs. It runs throughout all stages of learning and provides academic and psychsocial support. She said they have been doing this for more than 14 years and provides the support so that learners can reach their full potential as self-sustaining and proactive members of society.
The event is part of the Levi’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative.
Levi’s supply chain director Gavin Van Der Horst said: “To us giving back means going out to communities to give to the less fortunate.”
He said they always strive to do the right thing and visiting the school is part of what they do every year.
