Zizamele Educare in Khayelitsha was the site of a visit by Uthando South Africa and its stakeholders last Wednesday.
A tree was planted to mark the occasion.
Uthando is a non-profit-organisation which aims to raise funds for life changing community development projects by providing financial support and services.
It is a tourism based organisation and works to develop communities through philanthropy.
The tree is part of a lifelong vision to offer some shade for the children in the play area and the jungle gym.
“Every year we run programmes in line with the 67 minutes for Mandela ... This time it was the tree, working with micro-farmers in the townships.” said Maseko.
The organisation also donated a table tennis set for which the kids can play at Sizimisile Technical High School.
“Uthando celebrates our Proudly South African culture, while shining a light on the many deserving but hitherto unsung community heroes whose efforts so often go unrecognized and unrewarded,” said Xolani Maseko, Uthando tour guide.
The organisation is currently running a campaign called “let’s build Masibulele” to raise funds for a crèche located in Makhaza, currently operating in a shack.
Another of the organisations donated school bags manufactured out of recycles canvas.
“Plans are being drawn up to replace the shacks which currently make up Masibulele Educare Centre in Khayelitsha, and turn them into brick structures and we are already fund-raising to start construction later this year,” said Maseko.
Uthando South Africa stated that they are continuously looking for donations to meet their demands for assistance from the community.
The school has 140 children who struggle to make ends meet and also make staff payments. There is an acute lack of educational equipment. Anyone who would like to donate can contact Uthando at 021 683 8523.
