Warning about car-jacking
Lwandle police are warning the community about the rampant car-jacking incidents occurring in the area.
This warning comes after one car-jacking and attempted car-jacking incident occurred in Lwandle area on Friday, 3 August.
Both incidents occurred at night at Noxolo street in Lwandle and at Lindi street in Nomzamo between 21:00 and 22:10.
The first complainant, age 38, alleges that two unknown male suspects approached him at about 21:00 after he had opened the gate of his premises and forced him to jump into his car. Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama says they further instructed him to drive his car in the direction of Gordon’s Bay.
He said when they saw the police car, the suspects informed him to change direction back to Lwandle.
“When they passed Lwandle police station, the complainant jumped off and reported the matter to the police. The suspects drove away with a silver grey Toyota Conquest with registration number CEY 27523,” said Gama.
A case of car-jacking was opened.
Gama says the second attempted incident occurred at about 22:10 at Lindi street, Nomzamo.
It is alleged that a 36 year old complainant was at his friend’s place about to leave when three unknown male suspects approached him and asked for directions.
“The complainant unlocked the vehicle and one suspect pulled a firearm and pointed at him. They demanded the car keys and shot him in the leg. The complainant retaliated shooting at the suspects and they ran away,” he said.
A case of attempted car jacking was opened.

. Theft of motor vehicle: Another incident of theft of a motor vehicle was reported to the police. The incident occurred at Magatya Street, Asanda Village, between 20:00 Monday night, 06 August and 05:00 Tuesday, 07 August. The complainant parked his motor vehicle and when he woke up, he discovered that it was missing.
The vehicle is a white Ford Courier van with registration CEY 73517 without a canopy.
A case of theft of a motor vehicle has been opened.

The Lwandle police therefore request that:
. If you are about to arrive or leave home, request a person to open the gate or garage door for you.
. Drivers should consider not driving around at night especially when they are under the influence of liquor.
. Always be aware of your surroundings and check for suspicious people and motor vehicles.
. Be extra careful when approaching at traffic lights and stop streets.
. When experiencing a breakdown call the Police for assistance.
. Never give an unknown person a lift at night.
. Install a tracking device in your motor vehicle to assist in tracing it once it is stolen.
