YB hoists their flag high

Young Bafana’s under-15 side, who toured Durban last week, won five of their six tour matches.

The young guns from Lwandle and surrounding areas had no difficulty in hammering their opponents.

This is a remarkable feat, as the long-distance tour was a first for some of the charges. This, however, did not hamper their performance.

They came out guns blazing, with an attitude to represent their club and showcase their God-given skills on the football pitch.

Coach Veron Peter praised the young guns after their near flawless display on the road.

He described the tour as “awesome” for the young players. They had the opportunity to lock horns with the youth teams of Maritzburg United and Amazulu FC, whose senior teams play in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

“We did not only play soccer during the tour; the players also went on game drives, where they saw wild animals like zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and impala. They also went to the KwaZulu-Natal Museum and uShaka Marine World, where they saw dolphins and other sealife,” Peter related.

“They also visited the Nelson Mandela capture site where Madiba was arrested. This tour was more an educational one than anything else.”

Throughout the tour, the boys were kept busy with a range of educational and sporting activities.

“The soccer that was displayed was out of this world. Our opponents were also shocked by the way the boys played and their style of play,” Peter said.

“The coaches even enquired about six of our players, but we do not want to say anything about that just yet.”

According to Peter, there are still ongoing talks with the relevant parties and the club will also engage the boys’ parents on any possible moves.

He further said he knew his charges would do well on tour, as they worked hard beforehand. And, Peter added, the players did not disappoint. V Turn to page 7 for more photos of the Young Bafana tour to Durban.
