UNLICENSED BIKER CRASHES: VERULAM
An unlicensed biker sustained minor injuries after he was run over by a Ford Ranger bakkie at the George Sewpersad and Russom Street intersection in Verulam last Wednesday.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) arrived at the scene and found the biker bleeding from his left leg.
He informed reaction officers that he was on his way to his home in Mhlasini, Everest Heights in Verulam, when the driver of the Ford Ranger bakkie knocked into him at the intersection.
The biker could not produce a valid licence and declined medical attention.
The driver of the Ford Ranger bakkie was not injured in the collision.
ROBBERS OFFLOAD STOLEN TV DURING ESCAPE: PARKGATE
Four occupants of a Hyundai offloaded a 65” JVC TV shortly after they had stolen it from a home on Colchester Place in Parkgate, Verulam last Wednesday.
Members of Rusa arrived at the home and found that forced entry was gained through a sliding door. Residents reported seeing four men attempting to load a large TV into the back of the white hatchback vehicle.
The vehicle did not have number plates. The suspects sped off and decided to offload the TV further down the road due to the doors on the vehicle being unable to close. One bedroom in the house was also ransacked and jewellery was stolen.
A search was conducted for the suspects however no arrests were made.
SIX INJURED IN TAXI COLLISION: WATERLOO
Five passengers and a driver were injured last Friday morning when two taxis collided at an intersection on the Umdloti Beach Road near Waterloo.
Rusa were called out at approx 7.36 am by passing motorists who witnessed the accident. Reaction officers and paramedics arrived on scene and treated five of the injured. They were transported to Mt Edgecombe and Osindisweni Hospital.
The Umdloti KZN Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) were in attendance.
An elderly female who initially refused medical attention was transported privately to the Rusa offices after she experienced severe pain in her back and legs. Paramedics treated the woman and transported her to hospital.
According to passengers in both taxis, one of the drivers had disregarded the red robot and drove into the path of travel of the second taxi.
Both taxis were picking up passengers from the Waterloo area.
DRUNK DRIVER ARRESTED: VERULAM
A 46-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following a collision in the Verulam CBD last Friday.
Members of Rusa were called out to Wick Street in the vicinity of First National Bank after a Toyota Avanza collided into a stationary Toyota RunX.
Upon arrival, reaction officers found the driver of the Toyota Avanza under the influence of alcohol.
Witnesses reported seeing the Toyota Avanza travelling down Wick Street before it veered into oncoming traffic and collided into the stationary vehicle.
The intoxicated man informed officers that he was asleep in his vehicle which was parked on the roadside and could not explain how it had rolled. No one was injured in the collision.
The Redcliffe resident was handed over to SAPS.
VEHICLE OVERTURNS: CONISTON
A Hyundai i10 overturned after the driver avoided an oncoming vehicle in Coniston, Verulam last Friday night.
Members of Rusa were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting the incident.
Upon arrival, the vehicle was found lying on its side. The driver suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
He explained that, while travelling towards his home, he avoided a vehicle that suddenly veered onto his lane.
The vehicle he avoided drove off without stopping.
Residents in the area complained that, due to the amount of pot holes on that particular stretch of road, drivers were forced to travel on the oncoming lane to avoid damage to their vehicles.
