SIX-YEAR-OLD ELECTROCUTED: VERULAM
A six year old girl was electrocuted by an illegal connection at an informal settlement on Ramnanan Road in Coniston, Verulam on Monday, August 20.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were called out to the scene by the public reporting the incident. Upon arrival it was established that the child was walking on an unpaved road when she slipped and fell on a live uninsulated electricity cable.
Members of the community managed to move the cable before transporting the child by taxi to Osindisweni Hospital where she is reported to be in a stable condition. A child was killed by an illegal electricity connection at the same informal settlement last year after a resident created an electric fence to secure his home.
MOTORIST STABBED DURING ROBBERY: PHOENIX
The public is warned to be on high alert at the R102/Palmview robots after a 36-year-old motorist was attacked and robbed whilst stopped in his vehicle at a red traffic light on Tuesday, August 21.
Rusa was called to the scene at approximately 7.31 pm by several motorists who witnessed the robbery and stabbing in progress.
Upon arrival, reaction officers found a male who suffered stab wounds to both his legs.According to the victim, he was stationary at the traffic light on the northbound lane when he was approached by an unknown male who asked him for change.
The driver informed him that he did not have any money on him and the suspect then walked a few metres away, returned then drew a knife and attempted to stab him through the open window. The driver further explained that he fell into the passenger seat and used his feet to push the suspect away. He was then stabbed repeatedly on his legs before he managed to exit the vehicle through the passenger door. The suspect then continued to chase and attack him in full view of other motorists. He was robbed of his vehicle keys and a Huawei P8 Lite mobile phone.
Paramedics treated the man and transported him to a Hospital in Phoenix. Rusa has attended to several robberies and attacks on motorist in the vicinity of these robots in recent weeks. Drivers stopping at these traffic lights are warned to be on high alert.
VEHICLE OVERTURNS: R102 PHOENIX
Members of Rusa were called out to the south bound lane of the R102 in the vicinity of the Trade Centre off ramp in Phoenix after receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident last Friday.
Upon arrival a Hyundai i20 was found lying on its roof. Witnesses who stopped at the scene informed reaction officers that a Nissan SUV was weaving in traffic when it almost knocked into the Hyundai i20. The driver of the Hyundai i20 swerved to avoid the reckless driver when his vehicle overturned. The Nissan SUV sped off without stopping.
The driver of the Hyundai i20 was not injured in the accident.
SHOTS FIRED AT HIJACK VICTIM: WATERLOO
At approximately 11:58 pm on the night of August 24 members of Rusa were called out to Tyson Road in Waterloo, Verulam after receiving reports of shots being fired at a residential property.
Upon arrival the victim informed reaction officers that shortly after parking his vehicle at his home he was accosted by a man who was armed with a firearm.
The suspect robbed him of his car keys before he attempted to force the victim into his residence. The man resisted and pushed the gunman away. The suspect fired three shots before jumping into the victim’s Toyota Corolla.
Residents in the area heard the gun shots and upon investigation were informed of the incident by the victim. The suspect was in the process of starting the Toyota Corolla when residents began pelting him with stones preventing him from getting off the vehicle on the driver’s side. The suspect then broke the passenger window and fled the scene on foot.
Reaction officers conducted an extensive search of the area however no arrests were made.
DRUG USER APPREHENDED FOR THEFT OF MEAT: TONGAAT
A 30 year old man was apprehended after he attempted to flee a supermarket situated on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat with R450 worth of meat this past Saturday.
Members of Rusa were called out to the store after the suspect was apprehended.
Upon arrival it was established the suspect had purchased meat at the same store the day before. He returned with his 10 year old nephew and proceeded to the butchery and selected meat to the value of R450. He then attempted to walk out of the store without paying when he was stopped by security.
When questioned he produced a cash sale slip for the meat he had purchased yesterday. While being interviewed he abandoned his nephew and fled the store. Security officers pursued and apprehended him.
The suspect is a known drug user and it is believed that he was going to sell the meat and profits from the sale were going to be used to purchase drugs.
Stolen vehicle recovered: Tongaat
A 2017 white Toyota Avanza that was stolen from the Tongaat Sports Centre in Tongaat was recovered in a cane field near Westbrook by members of Rusa and Tracker at 6:05 pm this past Saturday.
The vehicle was stolen after it was parked at the Sports Centre at around 1 pm.
The vehicle occupants were attending a karate tournament and discovered that it was missing hours later.
The vehicle was partially stripped.
