THE United Methodist Church South Africa Mount Currie Circuit 114 held a women’s conference at Kokstad Town Hall from August 9 to August 12 in celebration of Women’s Month.
The purpose of the event was to empower women and it was attended by congregants from eight districts.
Thabile Mbele, the secretary of the United Methodist Women Conference, said the conference focused on gender equality, women and children abuse, challenges women faced and the role of women in the church.
“The church has played a role in fighting women abuse and the rape of women and young girls and we need support from community structures,” she said.
She said groceries were donated to two underprivileged families as part of community work by the church.
A mobile clinic was stationed and health readings were done.
Bishop Mqobongo encouraged women to stand together when building the nation.
