‘Cream of the crop’ celebrated

DEPARTMENT of Correctional Service (DCS) employees from Kokstad Management Area who were employed in 2008 celebrated 10 years of service at the department at an event held at Nolangeni Hotel in Kokstad on Tuesday.

The employees, called the “cream of the crop”, wore yellow and blue t-shirts at the event and were awarded certificates for good service.

One of the employees, Anthea Campbell, said they were employed in August 2008 and said that their group comprised many women.

She said working for the department has taught them numerous skills and, as a result, some of their members were promoted to better positions.

“It was awesome when we went to DCS College and we worked very hard for the benefit of the DCS and our communities,” she said.

DCS Kokstad Management Area Acting Commissioner Zuziwe Mdunge thanked employees for their hard work in the department and for their contribution in changing lives.

“Through dedicated employees, DCS has improved lives of many people who were refused from their communities,” she said.

Akhona Yamile, the Kokstad Management Area DCS Human Resource manager, encouraged workers to upgrade their qualifications so as to occupy higher positions.

Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union representative Sabelo Nonjabe also congratulated the members for their 10 years of service.
