WARM greetings to the Kokstad community and community at large.

One of the strategic objectives of Greater Kokstad Municipality is to support skills development for green jobs and a green economy.

In order to achieve that objective, we have a responsibility to address the scarce and critical skills that exist in the environmental sector.

As a point of entry towards achieving this goal; the municipality approached the Department of Environmental Affairs as they are the custodians of our environmental management.

In our deliberations, the department made a commitment to stage a Career Expo in Kokstad and invited various stakeholders and institutions of higher learning.

It is with pride and joy to inform you that on Friday, August 31 we will be hosting a Career Expo at Riverview Stadium. The expo will be on two folds with focus on high school learners and out of school youth.

Prior to the main event, the team will be criss-crossing around all high schools in Kokstad, conducting environmental awareness campaigns and educating learners about opportunities available in the environmental sector.

There are also going to be information tables stationed at Shoprite Centre and at the taxi rank to conduct these campaigns.

People of Kokstad are urged to use this opportunity as we ought to work together to achieve our strategic objectives.

The municipality wishes to remind Kokstad residents about the glitches experienced on the Emergency After-Hours Customer Care Line and Fire and Rescue Services contact numbers.

As we are busy sorting out this challenge, we have made an arrangement to use our main line 039 797 6600 even after hours to report electricity faults and emergencies.

This arrangement will be in place until the number 039 727 5733 is fixed and communication will be sent informing our community.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and once again we urge people to use 039 797 6600.

The Department of Labour in Greater Kokstad is on a mission to stabilise labour markets and ensure job creation within its area of jurisdiction.

On August 28 and August 29, from 11am until 2 pm, the department will be launching a Stakeholder’s Forum at the Town Hall. This forum is intended to address scarce skills, promote job creation, strengthen enforcement programmes by relevant stakeholders and ensure that the department performs all its duties in accordance with its mandate without favour, fear and prejudice.

The targeted participants at this August event are employers and their associations, employees, unions, the special groups i.e. youth, people with disability and women.

Thank you for taking the time to read this issue.

Let’s meet again, same time, same place!
