WARM greetings to the Kokstad community and the community at large.
GKM APPOINTS MANAGERS
An executive manager for Economic Development and Spatial Planning has been appointed and she commenced duties on August 27.
Canesia Dieketseng Vezi is our new executive manager — she holds a B-tech Degree in Town and Regional Planning, obtained from the University of Johannesburg. She is currently busy with studying towards her Master’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning through the University of Pretoria. Vezi has more than 18 years’ experience in local government with 10 years’ experience in a senior management position.
Before joining the greater Kokstad Municipality, she was employed by the Umdoni Local Municipality, in Scottburgh, as a senior manager for Economic Development and Spatial Planning.
We welcome Vezi to our management team and hope her expertise will greatly assist GKM in realising its vision of being a people-centered city of economic possibilities by 2047.
The appointment of Vezi put the municipality top management on 50% of female managers in senior management position. This is a great achievement in terms of compliance with the employment equity plan.
With the backlog in waste management, the municipality has also appointed an assistant manager in Waste and Environmental Management and as such Fani Given Nyembezi commenced his duties on August 27.
Nyembezi holds a BSc in Biology Science and post graduate degree in the same field, obtained from the Walter Sisulu University Mthatha Campus. He further got special training in Air Quality Management, Water and Waste Management, and Waste and Information Systems.
In terms of work experience, he first got trained as an intern at the Alfred Nzo District Municipality under environmental management.
Nyembezi was then employed by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism in the Amathole Region as an Environmental Officer before he returned to Alfred Nzo District Municipality as an environmental officer again.
He also has experience in the private sector, having worked as a Water Process Controller and Environmental Liaison Officer respectively.
We welcome Nyembezi to the Greater Kokstad Municipality as one of the employees who will add value based on his experience and qualification in the field.
He will assist the community with waste management services, environmental management services, and horticultural/ greening services.
NOTICE OF THE NEW CONSTRUCTION NEXT TO KOKSTAD COLLEGE
I want to take this opportunity to give clarity on the construction that is taking place next to Kokstad College on the way towards Ebongweni C-Max Prison.
With the growing demand in the electricity supply, the municipality is embarking on a new electrical upgrade project.
The upcoming upgrade entails the construction of a new 20MVA, 132/11kV substation.
The project is on its initial stage and its anticipated end date is November 2018.
The community will be kept abreast throughout the project implementation and we apologise for inconveniences that may be caused during construction.
ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS CARRIER EXPO
Last week I mentioned that Greater Kokstad Municipality will host a career expo on August 31 in partnership with the department of environmental affairs.
I would like to take this opportunity once more to remind all schools and youth from the schools in Kokstad to attend the expo and get informed on career opportunities available in the environmental field.
Thank you for taking time to read this issue.
Let’s meet again, same time, same place.
