Kokstad community unite in prayer

THE community of Kokstad, together with local pastors and congregants from different churches, held an event to pray for peace and express their appreciation for the work done by individuals in various categories.

Local teachers, hotel owners, schools and sport personalities who had won awards were given special respect at the event held at the Bhongweni Youth Centre last Friday, October 26.

MEC for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development Weziwe Thusi and Greater Kokstad Municipality Mayor Bheki Mtolo were also in attendance at the event.

“The idea to host prayer programmes in different areas was initiated by KZN Premier Willies Mchunu and the executive council to ask for peace in KwaZulu-Natal. We are praying for an end to the abuse of women and children, crime, rape, and the abuse of drugs,” said Thusi, who also called on communities to stop being violent when they need services from government.

Prince Vusilizwe Matomane, of the Umzintlanga Royal Traditional Council, said individuals who have done well need to be recognised at home. “In Kokstad, there are schools and farmers that have won awards at a national level and we want to celebrate and bless their achievements through prayer, and pray for an end to crime,” he said, calling for unity in Kokstad.
