Kokstad netball player chases her dream
REFILUE Nketsa (16) from Kokstad wanted to play netball for the national netball squad since she was young, and is now working towards her dream.
In March next year, she will be playing for the U17 national netball squad in Switzerland.
She was selected after she represented the Free State Provincial Netball Team during the provincial games held last month.
Her lifelong dream of playing netball started when she played for Shayamoya Secondary School in Kokstad.
Last year she was selected for the national squad at the Confederation of Southern Africa School Sport Association (Cosassa) games in Lesotho as a goalkeeper.
“I am excited about this opportunity and I want to play well in order for my team to win. Netball is [going to be] my career and I don’t want to disappoint my coaches and mentors,” she said.
She received the Best Sportsperson of the Year award by Harry Gwala District Netball Association during the sport personalities awards in May last year. She was also given a certificate of recognition for her efforts as a netball defender.
“I am not going to be discouraged because of being born and bred in the small town of Kokstad. I also want other young girls to follow their [dream] careers,” she said.
Nketsa is currently in Grade 11 at Sentraal Hoerskool in Bloemfontein.
