COMPLIMENTS OF THE FESTIVE SEASON TO YOU.

Can you believe we have just a few days left of 2018?

This year has certainly moved with speed! With the year coming to an end and council going on recess soon, I would like to remind you that your municipality will not close shop during this period. We will, during this festive season, continue to deliver services through our integrated contingency plan. So rest assured, you will not find yourselfstranded.

Our contingency plan for the entire festive season is as follows: Pre-paid Electricity

All the Matatiele Local Municipality’s walk-in offices for the purchase of prepaid electricity and enquiries will be open for business at the usual times except on weekends and public holidays. Municipal accredited pre-paid electricity vendors will be open at the usual times at filling stations and shops. Pre-paid electricity is also available at ATMs and on mobile phones.

Electrical Faults Maintenance

The electricity technical services unit will have technicians working as usual during working hours and will also be on stand-by throughout the festive period. Contact details for standby is 079 522 9770. Full details of this plan are available on our website and municipal Facebook page.

Condolences to Umzimvubu Local Municipality

Matatiele LM would like to extend its deepest heartfelt condolences to Umzimvubu LM for the passing of its Mayor, Bulelwa Mabengu. She passed last weekend after a short illness. The sudden death of Mabengu has not only left a void to her family and the community of Umzimvubu, but the Matatiele local municipality is also in mourning. Under her leadership, ULM was counted amongst the best municipalities who obtained clean audits as per Auditor General’s audit reports.

“We are all going to remember her good deeds,” said the Mayor of Matatiele, Cllr. Momelezi Mbedla. May her soul rest in peace.

MLM awards excellence

Last Friday saw Matatiele LM recognise and encouraging excellence in the work place. Awards were bestowed to individuals who mostly deserve such acknowledgement and have shown dedication during this calendar year. Awardees were awarded under the following categories: Best Performing Employee in Respective Units and Departments; Educational Awards; Humorous Awards; Employee of the Year; Best Improved Unit; Municipal Manager’s Prestigious Award and the Mayor’s Prestigious Award. All the limelight on the day was on General Assistant, Mme Ntobizanele Nyembezi who received about five awards on the day. Her awards included the Municipal Manager’s Prestigious Award. She was recognised for her dedication and passion in her work. Another big award went to Ms Olwethu Gwanya, Head of Communications, who received the Mayor’s Prestigious Award for her excellent job in the local government communication system.

“We congratulate the winners and wish them all the best in moving Matatiele LM forward. Indeed our employees are doing their best to service the people of Matatiele with excellence,” said mayor Mbedla.

Please note, this is our last column for 2018. We will meet again on January 11, 2019, with more developmental stories for you good citizens of Sweet Matat.

Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2019 to you all.
