GRADE 12 pupils from Shayamoya Area Secondary in Kokstad embarked on an educational tour in Johannesburg from August 19 to August 26 where they were exposed to many exciting experiences. The tour was organised by tourism teacher Loyiso Bavuma.
Instead of having a matric farewell, the school chose an educational tour for pupils to learn about potential careers.
“Pupils visited Nelson Mandela house at Vilakazi Street in Soweto, Hector Peterson Museum and Kaizer Chiefs Village where they interacted with staff and assistant coaches. When they visited the Market Theatre, they watched some television plays,” said Bavuma.
The pupils also enjoyed travelling on the Gautrain from the Park Station to Pretoria and watched a football game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Highlands Park in Pretoria.
The tour was concluded with happiness after pupils went to Gold Reef City where they were taught about minerals.
Bavuma said the tour helped pupils to identify lifelong careers.
