THE Economic Freedom Fighters from Matatiele have welcomed 250 new members who have joined the party between September and November in the Harry Gwala Township.
The new members were given T-shirts at an event held at the Harry Gwala Taxi Rank on November 4.
The party’s Councillor Tumo Mothapa said the new members have a task to convince residents to join the party for next year’s general elections.
He said a new structure was re-instated in the area after many residents have shown their support.
“In the Harry Gwala Township, residents have put their hope in the party because the government has failed them.
“The area has no proper roads, RDP houses are old, and some residents have lost their shacks after they were demolished by the local municipality,” he said.
In August, a number of illegal shacks were demolished after a court order was granted.
Mothapa promised to defend further demolition of illegal shacks, saying residents must be provided with new houses.
