NMZ VIEWPOINT

Greetings to all.

MEN’S CELEBRATION

This day is a focus on men’s and boys’ health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care.

There are testimonies of men and boys who have been playing significant roles in Umzimkhulu ever since the formation of the Men’s Committee. Though these good deeds are not much celebrated, it is vitally important to applaud men who do well in our society because they become direct influences on the boys.

This prestigious event was held in Zone 1, Ntsikeni, whereby men and boys managed to engage on ways forward.

GOLDEN GAMES

In the spirit of creating active citizenry, a healthy lifestyle is always actively encouraged. Umzimkhulu Municipality has thus put necessary resources aside to make sure that senior citizens are organised and co-ordinated accordingly.

Senior citizens got a chance to take part in the Golden Games. The KZN Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR), together with the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health, teamed up to make sure the event was a success.

Senior citizens took part in a number of active and fun games, ranging from track athletics to jukskei, duck walk, dress-up and ball throwing. These activities demand certain levels of fitness and ability.

The event was held in New City Sport ground as we are getting ready for the district event, to be held soon.

Umzimkhulu is quite well known for its impact on these games, having produced more than two national champs in different seasons. Even this year, our squads and officials are so determined not to disappoint.

PUPIL’S TRANSPORT

As a municipality, we have a direct interest in the well-being of the pupils, therefore their transport is equally important, to be well organised within the auspices of KZN Department of Transport through its agencies.

It is with great pleasure to know that this sector is rapidly growing towards proper management as some have already been issued with liability certificates. We also understand that further engagements are going to be held on zone 2,3,4 and 5 by August 10 at the latest.

Until we meet again.
