A 17-YEAR-old Grade 10 pupil from Shayamoya Secondary School in Kokstad had to be rushed to EG and Usher Memorial Hospital after he was allegedly beaten by a group of young boys last Friday.
The boy was reportedly returning home from school when a group of over 10 boys who are known to him allegedly assaulted him after an argument. The incident occurred a short distance away from the school premises at 1 pm.
“They started by assaulting another pupil in school and I stopped them. On my way home, I was approached by them outside school premises and they assaulted me until I ran away,” said the pupil, who said he has asked some of his friends to accompany him on the way to school until he finished writing exams because he feels unsafe.
School principal Zanele Mkhize was not aware about the incident when she was contacted for comment, however she said there are cases where male groups attack one another in the name of revenge. She said local schools in Kokstad are currently facing this problem.
SAPS spokesman Captain Dumisani Ncongo has confirmed a case of assault with intent to cause grievously bodily harm, which is being investigated by Kokstad SAPS. He said no arrests have been made yet.
