RADIO host Mbuyiseli Magoqoza, popularly known as DJ Ntombi’azimqomanga from The Voice of Matat Community Radio, has finally realised what he loves. He says he is living his dream of promoting traditional music on The Voice of Matat Community Radio.
During his one hour programme “9@9” from 9 pm to 10 pm every Tuesday, he plays local traditional music, and on Thursdays, he also plays traditional music, does announcements and invites guests to promote their traditions on the three-hour programme, Zindala Zombini.
“It’s a dream come true to host traditional programmes on the radio because many traditional artists are not given enough support on other radio stations. Traditional music makes people proud of their cultures and customs and it brings them closer to their ancestors,” he said.
On Saturdays, he co-hosts a three-hour programme with DJ Maleven and DJ Luthuli.
He said it was his first time on radio and his dream is to work with traditional leaders and traditional healers to educate people about their origins. In future he wants to enter the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA) for promoting local traditional music.
