COMMUNITIES in Bulwer and surrounding areas have asked the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality to put more money into supporting agriculture and tourism as they are dependant on these sectors to make a living.
They also called for more job opportunities to be made available for young people.
The municipality held an integrated development plan meeting at Bulwer Community Hall on Tuesday, with the aim of interacting with residents about their needs for the 2018/2019 financial year.
Deputy mayor Philani Shange, who was present at the meeting, said it is vital for the municipality to plan with residents. He said the municipality is currently working on the roads and community halls and he called for residents to discuss their needs with the municipality for the next financial year.
“The municipality has noted that most residents are seeking support to market their agricultural products, while young people requested to be equipped for work in agriculture,” he said.
Most residents in Bulwer and Underberg are involved in farming and tourism.
Shange encouraged members of the ratepayers association in Underberg to form part of community meetings in order to be aware of what government is planning and to offer further guidelines.
