THIEVES left Mount Currie Secondary without computers after a break-in which was reported to police on Monday morning.
School principal Jeffery Solomon said the computer lab had been locked on Friday afternoon and when they returned on Monday they saw the door had been broken. Fourteen computer monitors and 18 keyboards were stolen.
He said the school had a security guard but the guard was not on duty when the burglary occurred.
“Our security guard was attending a funeral of his relative at the weekend. On Saturday, everything was okay when I attended Saturday classes with matric pupils,” he said.
He said the school has no security alarm and could not afford to hire more security guards due to financial constraints.
“During the June holidays, there was a burglary at the school’s hostel as well,” he said.
In a separate incident, a security guard who works at Ikwezi Lokusa Pre-School in Kokstad was robbed of his cellphone by three unknown men at the school on August 16.
A computer, an undisclosed amount of money and food were also stolen.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo said police are investigating cases of business burglaries and no arrests have been made.
