Anthony Brian Pieters (32) was slapped with a collective sentence of eight years imprisonment for dealing in drugs and two years for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The sentence imposed by the Springbok Regional Court on 1 August, was for dealing in drugs and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
During a search operation undertaken by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Unit they obtained Mandrax worth R5 400 and an illegal firearm and ammunition from Pieters.
The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Maj. Gen. Kholekile Galawe, hailed the sentence, which follows Pieters’ arrest on 20 December 2017 in St George Street, E 20, Nababeep.
Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, said both charges will run concurrently, meaning Pieters will effectively serves eight years in jail.
