Alleged serial killer, Edwin Malefetsane Molise (36), who faces multiple murder charges, stands trial in the Bloemfontein High Court.
The trial began on 30 July and will continue until 7 September with judgement expected upon the completion of the month-long trial.
Const. Peter Kareli, provincial police spokesperson, said Molise is on trial facing 21 charges after a killing spree in Botshabelo.
He said the accused’s alleged reign of brutality dates back from 2000 while he still was a high school learner in Botshabelo.
“In 2000, whilst in high school, he allegedly murdered a man by hacking him with a panga. He continued with his vicious acts which ended when arrested by members of the provincial Task Team in February last year,” said Kareli.
He said charges against the accused, also known as Khuze, include five charges relating to murder.
Other charges include house breaking and theft, house robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of drugs, possession of a stolen vehicle, armed robbery and car hijacking.
