The final of this year’s Free State Copa Coca-Cola u.15 boys’ football competition will take place at the Bohlokong Stadium, Bethlehem, on Saturday (25/08).
This will feature six secondary schools’ teams that will battle it out for the crown.
The teams are winners in the five regions. They are: Moroka from Thaba Nchu (Motheo), Dr Reginald Cingo from Kroonstad (Fezile Dabi), Ipetleng from Petrusburg (Xhariep), Lesaoana and Akofang from Qwaqwa (Thabo Mofutsanyana), as well as Mosala from Allanridge (Lejweputswa).
Lucas Sekwena, provincial tournament director, has explained why Thabo Mofutsanyana would have two representatives.
“The decision was taken in the spirit of fair play in the competition. Each host region benefit from the format annually. An odd number of teams did not give participants a fair chance, hence the decision to have six finalists to play an equal number of matches in the final,” said Sekwena.
New champions will be crowned, due to the 2017 champions, Qalabotjha from Villiers (Fezile Dabi), having been outplayed. The team claimed the 2017 title after narrowly beating Lesaoana by 4 – 3 on penalties in Bloemfontein.
