Curvy Bfn beauty wears the crown

Mrs and Miss South Africa Plus World, a beauty pageant exclusively for curvy, shapely and fabulous women, has climaxed.

This is after Mrs South Africa Plus World (the title-holder in the category for married contestants) was crowned in style in the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre on Saturday (10/11).

It was the third time this beauty pageant was held, with the chief objective to afford curvy and shapely women a platform to showcase their natural beauty.

The pageant has come to break the stereotype that kept many women to stay spectators for decades due to their body shape, as opposed to that of the general concept of beauty.

Saturday’s ceremony completed the South African leg of this beauty pageant, which has opened doors for South African contestants to compete globally. The two category winners will represent the country at the Mrs and Miss Plus World pageant in Texas in 2019.

The eight finalists for the 2018 Mrs South Africa Plus World pageant lived up to expectations, flaunting their curves on the runway.

Kenalemang Itholeng (39) from Bloemfontein was crowned Mrs South Africa Plus World for 2018, taking the baton from Dipolelo Hou, the first to represent the country at the Mrs Plus World pageant, held in America this year.

Itholeng was voted as the title-holder by a panel of judges after three sessions.

Siphokazi Salman (42) and Lucia Pitso (36) were crowned the first and second princess, respectively.

They also received special individual awards as voted for by the public. Pitso was voted Mrs Charity, while Salman received the Mrs Public Choice award. Other special awards, as voted for by the public, were presented to Nthabiseng Masiu (Mrs Photogenic) and Rachel Motelung (Mrs Personality).

Itholeng, together with fellow beauty queen Murunwa Mphigalale from Johannesburg (Miss South Africa Plus 2018), will represent South Africa at the global final in Texas.

Both the category winners will serve as brand ambassadors and will participate in charity programmes.

This year’s Mrs and Miss South Africa Plus pageant raised the bar, as all the finalists were presented a certificate of participation, recognising their contribution.

Samuel “Chief” Leeuw, franchise director, said the positive response in partners sponsoring the pageant contributed to the steady grow of the pageant.

Seven entities, including Express (print media sponsor) have teamed up to sponsor the pageant. The other partners are Fashion World Bloem Plaza, Mijona Cosmetics, Old Mutual, Motifmedia, Bon Hotel and Aha Hotel.
