The SAB League title for the Mangaung Metro is a four- horse race.
The teams tipped as strong contenders are Mathaithai, Brebner High School, Knowledge Glen and Pro-Mates.
These teams have the potential to win the championship given their standing on the log.
Newcomers Brebner’s boys’ team is in second place with 29 points – two points adrift of log leaders Mathaithai on 32 points.
Knowledge FC and Pro-Mates are in third and fourth positions on 26 and 24 points, respectively.
Pro-Mates have descended to their current position following a 3 – 1 defeat by Knowledge last weekend (30/11), while Brebner hammered Bochabela Warriors with 7 – 1 to claim the second spot.
Brebner’s victory propelled them to second position with a superior goal tally of 37.
Mathaithai remain the only unbeaten team of the 16 clubs in this third-tier league and stands on 32 goals, followed by Knowledge with 31 goals.
Pro-Mates, who led the log from the start but failed to maintain the rhythm, has scored 26 goals.
The top-seeded four clubs eye maximum points in their forthcoming fixtures to consolidate their respective positions on the log ladder and hopefully intensify the chances of winning the competition.
The league’s first round is left with just three fixtures before entering the crucial second round which will produce the ultimate champion for the current season of the South African Football Association (Safa).
