Hardworkpays off

The Virginia Sport Academy is buoyant with Teboho Mokoena, a product of the academy, with two nominations for prestigious awards of the 2018-‘19 Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Born and bred in the Free State town of Bethlehem, the utility player is a nominee for the Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season and 2018-’19 Absa Premiership Goal of the Season award.

Teboho (22), who plays for SuperSport United, is shortlisted for the Young Player of the Season with Gift Links (20) of Cape Town City and Bongani Sam (21) of Bloemfontein Celtic.

This is the third time in succession that Teboho is nominated for the category of young player. He was shortlisted in 2016-’17 and 2017-’18. However, he felt short both seasons.

Pitso Mokoena, head coach of the Virginia Sport Academy, is elated with the player’s nominations in two categories.

“We are delighted. It proves the work we are doing at the academy is noticed,” said Pitso.

For the Goal of the Season award young Teboho has two superb goals nominated. He scored the goals in January and February this year against Celtic and Golden Arrows, respectively. Gaston Sirino of Mamelodi Sundowns also has two goals selected like Teboho. Vincent Pule, also Free State (Qwaqwa) has had his goal nominated.

Another Free State born, Thembinkosi Lorch (Bloemfontein) of Orlando Pirates is a nominee for the PSL Footballer of the Season and vying for the coveted accolade with Mamelodi Sundowns duo Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane. The winners will be announced at a PSL ceremony to be held in Durban on Sunday (19/05).
