Learner murdered

Members of the Kuruman community are shocked after the murder of a 19-year-old learner, Keitumetse Lesedi Skeffer, on her way to school on Tuesday, 6 November.

The incident happened near a bus stop in Gamopedi, where the victim’s body was found with multiple stab wounds.

Skeffer was a learner of the KP Toto High School.

The police in Tsineng opened a case of murder following the murder.

A 25-year-old man, who is believed to have been her boyfriend, was arrested after handing himself over to the police.

Although this incident occurred outside the school premises, the Northern Cape Department of Education expressed sympathy that a learner was robbed of a bright future.

This is just another one of the many incidents of violence in the John Toalo Gaetsewe District due to the rising incidents of violence that occurred in the.

Media liaison officer of the department, Geoffrey van der Merwe, said social workers were deployed to the school to provide group counselling to learners and teachers affected by the incident.

The MEC for Education, Martha Bartlett, expressed concern that these types of incidents have reached unacceptable levels.

“We want learners and parents to know that the appropriate action will be taken,” she said.

  • “We also appeal to all school communities and the traditional leadership to work with us to ensure safer schools, safer homes and safer communities in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.” The suspect made a brief appearance in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

He was set to reappear on Tuesday (13/11).

Local events company Harambe LifeStyle also conveyed deepest condolences to the family of Keitumetse Lesedi Skeffer.
