Local rivals to fight it out

A tough ABC Motsepe League fixture between the current log-leader, Mangaung Unite, and Bloemfontein Celtic, is expected to intensify their rivalry.

The two local arch-rivals will clash at the Westdene sports grounds in Bloemfontein on Saturday (17/11).

Yet to lose a game this season (2018-’19), Mangaung will be gunning to continue local dominance while Celtic will aim to end its rival’s undefeated record in Saturday’s fixture.

A defeat for Mangaung would see a fall to the second position, while Harmony, also undefeated, would move to the top of the log.

Harmony from Welkom and Mangaung are the only clubs still unbeaten in the Free State stream of the ABC Motsepe League.

These two clubs are yet to battle it out in the league this season.

Mangaung, the only team to be managed by a woman, Sinki Leshabane, is at the top of the log.

Celtic is placed tenth with mere nine points, lagging behind Mangaung’s 25 points.

These clubs have played eight and nine matches respectively.

In the previous meetings of the 2017/-’18 season, Mangaung was unstoppable against Celtic who will be gunning for revenge this time around.

In a return league fixture last year, Mangaung beat Celtic by 2 – 1.

Mangaung’s form makes this club the favourite for Saturday’s clash.

Mangaung will depend on its ability to score goals, seeing as the players have scored 18 goals in the competition thus far.

Celtic has only managed to score 11 goals.

  • The fixture’s kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.
