The Virginia Regional Court has sentenced a man from Meloding to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping a nine year old girl last year.
Teboho Modikeng (25) was sentenced on 30 April – rendering justice to the young victim.
Magistrate Thiloshnee Ramdeyal slapped the accused with the hefty sentence after hearing evidence presented in court. Ramontsheng Lekgetho prosecuted the rape case.
Capt. Malebo Khosana, police spokesperson, said evidence includes confirmation of the rape by a doctor who examined the victim.
He said the victim was raped on 17 June last year and the incident came to light after the girl reported the ordeal to her mother.
“The victim told her mother that the suspect, who is staying on the same street as them, raped her,” said Khosana.
He said the accused resides close to the victim and is well known in the neighbourhood.
Khosana said the victim was playing on the neighbour’s premises with Modikeng’s son.
He said the accused sent his child to call her mother, and in the meantime he called the victim into the house and raped her.
The accused was traced and arrested at the Meloding Clinic.
Khosana said the case was investigated by const. Themba Jilimba and was later assigned to const. Moleboheng Molete, who managed to unravel the case.
