Melissa (8) to be buried

The funeral service of Melissa Kanguya (8) from Platfontein is expected to take place on Friday, depending on donations received due to financial constraints.

This follows the discovery of her body about 10 km from her home on Thursday (23/08) afternoon. Her body was discovered under a tree next to the Griekwastad Road following a week-long search for her by the police and members of the community and Operation Wanya Tsotsi.

Melissa went missing on 16 August after fleeing into the veld from three minor boys who had allegedly attacked her and another girl and boy.

Autopsy results revealed that she was raped. The other girl and boy were also allegedly raped by the suspects.

By the time of going to print, the three minor boys, aged 14 to 16, were still set to appear in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court for rape.
