Mobile clinic launched

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Free State (UFS) has thrown its weight behind programmes aimed at promoting health in the province.

The support came with the launch of the mobile health service clinic on 31 July at the university’s Bloemfontein campus.

The UFS Faculty of Health Sciences launched this initiative in collaboration with the Free State Department of Health (FSDoH).

The mobile clinic will operate in the Free State’s impoverished region of the Xhariep District Municipality and the Kopanong Local Municipality.

“The mobile clinic will address health promotion, maternal and child health, HIV-AIDS, chronic conditions, and communicable and non-communicable diseases.

“In addition to the FSDoH services, students will provide allied health-related and optometry services,” said Lacea Loader, UFS spokesperson.

In a media statement, it envisaged that the mobile clinic would reduce financial distress and break geographic and psychological barriers by improving access to healthcare.

Loader said the importance of using mobile clinics is to complement existing health services and encouraging health promotion through enriched reciprocity.

“The coordinated efforts of the stakeholders are essential for a successful healthcare system,” said Loader.
