Officials of the Department of Home Affairs’ De Aar office in the Northern Cape prepared soup and bread for the clients that visited the office on Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July.
The officials also paid a visit to patients in the maternity ward of the newly built Central Karoo Hospital in De Aar.
In the early morning hours of 18 July baby Ricardo was born and the department managed to register the child on the National Population Register and issued the birth certificate to the mother on the same day.
According to a local office committee member, Nonceba Thibane, late president Nelson Mandela had outmost love for children and this is what motivated them to pay a visit to the newborns and their parents at the hospital on this day.
