The University of the Free State (UFS) announced that the on-campus registration process at the at its campuses will commence on 21 January, while online registration started on 7 January.
According to Lacea Loader, spokesperson, senior students requiring assistance or academic advice will be assisted on the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campus on 21 January. Registration and academic advising services for first-time first-year students start on the Bloemfontein campus on 25 January, and on the Qwaqwa campus on 28 January.
“The only academic service currently available for students on campus is that of information services and enquiries from students visiting faculties, as well as assistance with online access to the central application clearing house.”
Loader said media reports claiming registration started on 7 January were false, that the and that several aggrieved students shut-down registration points on the Bloemfontein campus.
“A group of students under the banner of the South African Student Congress’ Bloemfontein branch operated without engaging with the university’s existing student structures. They disrupted student academic services on the Bloemfontein campus and blocked the entrance to the campus at one of the five gates on Wednesday (09/01),” she said.
“This indicates the university management has not effectively dealt with some student-related matters pertaining to the 2019 registration process.”
