School makes history

The Wrenchville High School’s debating team competed in the final round of the Northern Cape leg of the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement’s national school debating competition, held from 24 to 26 August.

Wrenchville became the first non-Kimberley school to win the provincial leg of the competition. The team will represent the province at the national finals in Pretoria from 1 to 3 October.

The national champions will win a week-long trip to America.

This debating competition is one of the flagship projects that provides learners with an opportunity to develop their research, critical thinking and informa­tion literacy skills, as well as their ability to work as a team to present logical arguments.

Among the objectives is to make science communication ambassadors out of learners through researching and debating high-level scientific topics.
