Good progress is reportedly being made in terms of preparations for hosting the upcoming Inter-LFA tournament in Kimberley in four weeks’ time.
The Sol Plaatje Local Football Association (SPLFA) reveals that three venues (the Kimberley Boys’ High School grounds, the Galeshewe artificial pitch and the De Beers Stadium), will be used to host the tournament’s games.
At least five LFA’s from the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape, consisting of about 120 players each, will be hosted in Kimberley with their coaches and supporters.
The excitement is mounting as engagements improve in terms of support by different stakeholders and sponsors, to make the event a memorable one.
According to the SPLFA, all the stops will be pulled out to turn the challenge of hosting a tournament of this magnitude into a fruitful challenge.
The SPLFA believes that a successful event will put the Northern Cape on the map in terms of local football.
The event has the potential of boosting the economy in terms of the development of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMME’s) and entrepreneurship, if advantage is taken in the field of hospitality, by erecting stalls.
According to Thabo Namisa, development officer, technically they are ready to host the tournament.
Namisa said they cannot wait to walk away with the cup in many catagories.
He added that the participating LFA divisions would be from u.12 to u.18, and that senior teams would be included.
The South African Football Association in the Frances Baard Region is also reported to have pledged their support towards the hosting of this tournament.
