THE second annual Summer Music Explosion at the Transka Resort outside Warrenton is regarded as being a great success as the attendance tripled since the first festival.
This is according to one of the festival organisers, Mojalefa Maijane from MJM Promotions and Productions, who said the event, held on 19 December 2015, pulled enough crowds of music lovers who came to see their favourite artists.
The event started with a pre-party, featuring local DJs to showcase their talent before the main event. The weather, which changed four times during the day, did not dampen the mood.
It was dancing all the way as one top DJ after another gave the attendants exactly what they came for. Motsweding FM weekend afternoon presenter, Phenyo Phushudi, acted as the master of ceremonies.
The organisers were happy to present a successful crime-free bash. Most of the attendants bought their tickets in advance at Computicket to avoid disappointment.
Several revellers opted to sleep in their cars instead of driving back to their various destinations in the early hours of the morning.
“We managed to beat the odds in ensuring that all the lined up artists shown up, especially the lead artists, Cassper Nyovest and Ricky Rick, who left their supporters asking for more,” said Maijane.
According to him, they had to put in an efforts of chartering a flight from Johannesburg to Kimberley in order for Nyovest to show up, as he was performing in Botswana and Polokwane earlier on the same day.
Other DJs in the line up were Duke Soul, Tshego Gemini Major, Scott, Collin Carey, Chipzitto, Lloyd, Cool C, Nimza and the eight-year-old music sensation from Vryburg, MC Tsotso.
Two other Motsweding FM presenters, Papa and Big Boy, were also part of the line-up and also Shimza, Finzo from Lesedi FM, PK and KG.
Maijane added that the event had an economic injection as local businesses were part of the marketing strategy.
“Most of the stock of the local businesses were sold out by the end of the evening, although arrangements were made for them to stock up. That was due to the booming business they experienced.
“Our local artists also deserve credit as they gave outstanding performances and left everybody overwhelmed during the pre-party, where we also marketed the main event.
“The support of the attendants is really something to be acknowledged and we encourage them to keep up the nation building spirit.”
The organisers further send their gratitude to the National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, the Northern Cape Arts Council and the South African Breweries for making the event a success.
