The police in Sasolburg issued a warning for motorists to be on the lookout for a hijacking syndicate using blue lights on the R57, R59 and R82 in the Free State.
This comes after the police received reports relating to the crime syndicate targeting motorists.
According to Const. Josephine Rani, police spokesperson, two or more men and women are pretending to be law enforcement officers.
She said the unknown suspects reportedly dress in police and traffic officers’ uniforms.
“They pull motorists over to the side of the road. Once the motorists stop, the suspects take the vehicles and rob the occupants of their money and personal belongings.”
The police urge all road users not to stop if anyone in an unmarked vehicle with blue lights tries to pull them over.
“If motorists see suspicious activity, they are advised to drive to the nearest police station or immediately contact the police,” said Rani.
