The male soccer team of the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is proud to have emerged as runners-up in the University Sports South Africa (USSA) 2018 final round by being awarded silver medals.
The event took place at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth from 2 to 6 July.
This means that the SPU team has been promoted to the A section where they will compete in the Varsity Cup and stay in the A section for longer.
The SPU team also prides itself with more achievements at the tournament when their captain, Jethro Setlholo, scooped the player of the season award.
SPU features, for the second year in a row, in the lower B Section with other universities that campaigned for promotion to the A section, which is rated as the premier league of universities.
Hopes are high for the SPU players as it was their goal to be amongst the three universities to be promoted.
The other universities in group B are the Mangosuthu University of Technology, the Rhodes University, the IIE Varsity College and the Mpumalanga University.
