Four local Northern Cape soccer teams competed in a friendly community soccer tournament, sponsored by a local solar farm, at the Riverton sports grounds on Saturday, 3 November.
The Droogfontein Solar Power Soccer Tournament brought together four local Riverton teams, Roots FC, Masters FC, Stars FC and Mighty Young Stars FC.
Medals and soccer kits were sponsored, and the winning team, Mighty Young Stars FC, was awarded with a brand-new trophy. have also been sponsored, receiving kit and equipment for the club.
“The value of sponsoring community sport extends beyond the sport,” said Hlengiwe Radebe, economic development director of Droogfontein Solar Power.
“It can play a role in bringing communities together. It also has a social and cultural impact and develops social capital.”
