A FAREWELL befitting a statesman, attended by the highest authorities in the land, saw Thobani Matthews Ndaba go to his final resting place on Saturday, November 10.
Ndaba was murdered on Thursday November 2 as he was leaving Umvoti municipal offices.
Almost 20 empty AK 47 rifle cartridges were found at the scene of the crime, which has been said to be a “clear indication that Ndaba’s murder was a carefully orchestrated hit”.
Minister Bheki Cele, who was a speaker at the funeral, remarked on the brutality of the murder, saying the killing of a law enforcement officer should be deemed treason.
“If you attack a law enforcement officer, it’s an attack not on just the state but on the people of South Africa because we are a country for its people and we need to have order.
“We actually need to have a society that is safe,” Cele said.
Those close to Ndaba commended the great man he was and the dedication and leadership he showed in his work ethic.
Umvoti Mayor TC Ngubane emphasised the high calibre of principle that Ndaba held up and said Ndaba would never bend nor waiver when it came to the truth.
Although no arrests have been made, Cele said he was happy with the progress being made by the police task team on solving this case and said he was positive arrests were imminent.
