GROWING up in a disadvantaged community with a poor educational background has never been a stumbling block for prominent radio presenter for Radio Khwezi FM, Saziso Dlamini.
Complexities in the rural village of eMakhabeleni where he was born, encouraged him to pursue a career in broadcasting.
Dlamini is making a name for himself in the broadcasting industry.
He has won various awards including the MTN Radio Awards in 2012 where he received the Best Night Show and Best Night Time presenter awards.
As a radio presenter, technical producer and content producer, he did a lot of training programmes on radio and online courses after he was unable to further his studies to university level.
His parents motivated him to follow his dream to be in the broadcasting industry.
He joined Radio Khwezi in 2011 as a technical producer, he has inspired the youth within Umvoti and other nearby areas. He said: “In 2014 I received the Best Indigenous Music Show and Excellence in Broadcasting in Indigenous languages awards, I have received 11 awards up to this far.”
His love of radio and music started from an early age when he was at primary school. A great deal of his inspiration comes from radio presenters such as Khetha Gwala from Ukhozi FM and other presenters of Khwezi FM
“I have always been passionate about music. When I was at primary school I was the leader of the traditional dance group. At Grade 11, I suddenly realised that radio was a kind of career I should follow. I am kind of a person who loves sharing ideas and engage in debates bout current and contemporary issues,” Dlamini said.
After completing matric at Esokheni High in 2007, he was unable to further his studies. He told the Gazette that after completing matric he encountered many challenges. Listeners of his afternoon show called 120 Drive starting from 3 pm to 5 pm know him as a man who likes to crack jokes throughout the programme.
At 7 pm to 11 pm he host development programmes at the station and at 11 pm he hosts his music programme called Nigh Time Crew.
“I have started my company called Saziso Infotainment and Projects. To the youth out there willing to pursue a career in broadcasting I would say passion is the month important part of this job.
Working for radio will not give you a good income, however, there are better opportunities in the radio industry that may help you advance yourself,” Dlamini said.
