THE Greytown Library is a public place for all.
On my recent visit to the library I requested some periodicals, some are daily and some are monthly. I was informed that they don’t get them as the municipality stopped them due to financial constraints.
This sounds so weird as these periodicals keep one informed on what is happening in Greytown and the whole of KZN.
It’s also used for educational purposes and the school children use the library and the outside area as a waiting place until their lifts arrive.
The municipality can make a shelter outside [the library] so that the children can be safe and don’t fill the library unnecessarily. While we don’t have a problem with that, they do always block the front exits?
The library is so hot, only fans work and the air conditioners don’t work?
The library is always full of people and the fans cannot cope with our hot days. This is also due to financial constraints?
On querying, as well as about the services at the library, one is told that they are short-staffed and vacancies are not filled.
We sympathise with these dedicated ladies that work so hard to keep the library going, but what is the use if they don’t have the tools [to do their jobs].
We wish that those who are responsible for the library do take steps to rectify these matters soon.
