Who cares?

REFUSE bags — supply was stopped some time in 2018 and uMvoti Municipality has not informed residents what the problem is, yet ratepayers are paying for refuse collection?

Pot holes — this town is infested with them. One sees the maintenance truck driving around town the whole day, supposedly repairing these pot holes, to no effect. Why not outsource this function if they don’t have qualified people to do the job once and for all? Do as other towns are doing — the service provider gives a guarantee of 12 months and, should the same potholes emerge, they will be repaired for free. The person in charge of maintenance should be held accountable as we have never seen them doing an inspection.

Lakhis Sports Field and Acacia Park — going on now for two years and still an eyesore.

Grass cutting — what a mess, grass is cut left on verges for weeks and the edges along the gutters are not cut. After the recent storm some weeks ago the tree branches were heaped on street corners and are still there. Lake Merthley — why is it not open to the public? The municipality can do with some income from the gate fees and the residents of this town have nowhere to go over weekends, public holidays and when it’s hot.

Traffic control — where are the traffic officers? You must see the chaos in Pine Street, cars double parked, parked on yellow lines, parked on the wrong side of the road facing oncoming vehicles just for shade. This is such a small town, surely, we can do better with the above. When we receive VVIP guests we go all out to clean the town and after that it goes back to normal.

— CONCERNED RATEPAYERS.
