WEMBLEY was involved in much festivity over the weekend as the school turned 21!
We kicked off the celebrations with the annual go-kart races.
Once again, the pupils dressed up and made up vibrant war cries which spurred them on to greater speed.
The next day, we started with our formal Founders Assembly where we had choirs singing and even witnessed our headmaster doing some fancy footwork to celebrate reaching 21.
We acknowledged the enormous role that our founders played in the creation of our school.
The key was central to the theme of becoming an adult and many interesting parallels were drawn with our successful track record in Greytown.
The recently-acquired marimbas were also part of the ceremony and we also saluted the children who have been with us for 13 years since their grade R year.
Two staff member were also given their 10 year loyal service awards.
School finished early to allow the Wembley family time to rest before the evening concert featuring Brendon Peyper and Matthew Mole.
The opening act was our very own home-grown band DDG, the Disproportionate Do-Gooders, who wowed audiences. The evening was a great success and we look forward to next year’s duck derby concert already!
The next morning, Wembley hosted a sports festival which wrapped up the festivities for the weekend.
Thank you to all the parents and community members who supported our Youth Choir Evening on Thursday, August 23. We also would like to thank all the JP parents for their work with selling the soup and rolls during the evening.
An athletics-filled fortnight began for the foundation phase on Thursday, August 16.
First up was our JP inter-house athletics. What a fun morning was spent up at the track.
Sprints, relays, egg and spoon as well as sack races and novelty class races delighted one and all, but the highlight for the children would have to be watching their moms balancing eggs and spoons and the dads leaping across the track in tiny sacks!
Well done to Mikayla Königkrämer (U6) for breaking the sprinting record in her age group!
Thank you to Mrs Sarekha Munessar for being our guest of honour.
Congratulations to the Eagles for winning the spirit trophy, and to the Falcons for their victory on the track.
The preschool had their first independent inter-house athletics meeting on Friday August 17. Fun was had by all with the novelty races.
Each member at the Cubbies participated with great enthusiasm. Well done to Bolu Salawudeen (U4) for breaking the sprinting record in her age group.
On Tuesday, August 28 it was the JP fun inter-schools athletics meeting. We welcomed Greytown Junior, Kammaland, Little Elephant and St Davids to our track and it was inspiring to compete against Greytown’s best!
